Our History  Novus Sport is one of several new business opportunities of BioCrossroads, Indiana’s life science initiative. BioCrossroads supports the state’s research and corporate strengths while encouraging new business development in the life sciences.

Because of Indianapolis’ reputation as the collegiate and amateur sports capital of the world, along with unique assets like the NCAA and the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), Novus Sport is uniquely positioned to take advantage of new business opportunities in an area referred to as sports-related life sciences. In 2003, BioCrossroads identified this area as one that holds significant economic development opportunity for Indiana.

In partnership with ACSM, Novus Sport brings all the right ingredients to the table:

  • BioCrossroads, which supports academic, research and business development in Indiana;
  • ACSM, which has a direct line to the premier researchers and innovators in the sports medicine marketplace; and
  • Indianapolis, which has direct access to many of the nation’s finest and brightest sports-related organizations.
Formed in February 2003, BioCrossroads is a partnership of leading private and public companies and government entities that share a vision of growing Indiana’s existing life science assets. BioCrossroads counts as its members some of the nation’s leading universities, health care companies and nonprofit organizations and government bodies that are committed to advancing the state’s life science industry.

Among the initiative’s accomplishments:

  • Development of the Indiana Future Fund I, a $73 million fund that will invest in regional and national venture capital funds that, in turn, will invest in Indiana life science opportunities;
  • Development of the Indiana Centers for Applied Protein Sciences (INCAPS), Protein Center of Excellence that works with local corporations and universities;
  • Development of the Indiana Health Information Exchange (IHIE), a not-for-profit venture backed by a unique collaboration of several Indiana healthcare institutions to use information technology and shared clinical information to improve the quality, safety and efficiency of healthcare in the state;
  • Development of a statewide agricultural strategy, which includes the establishment of a central authority to drive economic development;
  • Development of a seed fund for start-up businesses in Indiana; and
  • Launch of an aggressive marketing campaign to showcase Indiana to the entrepreneur, investor and research audiences.

Novus Sports is another example of how BioCrossroads leverages its core assets and partners with the right organizations to identify a need – sports-related innovation – and find a solution.
